Rochelle Feinstein has created an extraordinary oeuvre over the past 30 years which includes not only paintings but also videos, sculptures and installations. Feinstein’s works are often based on topics connected with current social and politic occurrences or with her own observations of everyday life. With her series The Estate of Rochelle F. for instance, Feinstein reacts to the financial crisis by creating her own posthumous estate. Generally Feinstein only uses readymade objects for her work that she finds in her studio and its surroundings. The main emphasis of Feinstein’s art is not only the quality and the possibilities of painting itself but the idea of an art without an audience.

In cooperation with the Lenbachhaus München and the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève the kestnergesellschaft presents an extensive retrospective of the American artist and will exhibit a large span of artworks ranging from her earlier works created in the 1990s to her newest works which will be shown in Germany for the first time.
